General Objectives

At the end of the level, the student will be able:

  • to understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment);
  • to communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters;
  • to describe in simple terms aspects of his background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.

 

Skills Development

At the end of the level, the student  will have developed the following skills:

Receptive Skills

  • Listening - He will be able to understand phrases and the highest frequency vocabulary related to areas of most immediate personal relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local area, employment). He will be able to catch the main point in short, clear, simple messages and announcements.
  • Reading – He will be able to read very short, simple texts. He will be able to find specific, predictable information in simple everyday material such as advertisements, prospectuses, menus and timetables and he will be able to understand short simple personal letters.

Productive skills

  • Speaking Interaction – He will be able to communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar topics and activities. He will be able to handle very short social exchanges, even though he can’t usually understand enough to keep the conversation going himself.
  • Speaking Production – He will be able to use a series of phrases and sentences to describe in simple terms his family and other people, living conditions, his educational background and his present or most recent job.
  • Writing - He will be able to write short, simple notes and messages relating to matters in areas of immediate need. He will be able to write a very simple personal letter, for example thanking someone for something.
