General Objectives

At the end of the level, the student will be able:

  • to understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his field of specialization;
  • to interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers effortless without strain for either party;
  • to produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.

Skills Development

At the end of the level, the student  will have developed the following skills:

Receptive Skills

  • Listening – He will be able to understand extended speech and lectures and follow even complex lines of argument provided the topic is reasonably familiar. He will be able to understand most TV news and current affairs programs. He will be able to understand the majority of films in standard dialect.
  • Reading - He will be able to read articles and reports concerned with contemporary problems in which the writers adopt particular attitudes or viewpoints. He will be able to understand contemporary literary prose.

Productive skills

  • Speaking Interaction - He will be able to interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible. He will be able to take an active part in discussion in familiar contexts, accounting for and sustaining his views.
  • Speaking Production – He will be able to present clear, detailed descriptions on a wide range of subjects related to his field of interest. He will be able to explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
  • Writing – He will be able to write clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects related to his interests. He will be able to write an essay or report, passing on information or giving reasons in support of or against a particular point of view. He will be able to write letters highlighting the personal significance of events and experiences.
