CAPT
A new way of testing language levels online
CAPT (Capturator Adaptive Placement test) is an innovative way to test language levels.
CAPT is based on Item Response Theory. It consists of 25 questions drawn from an Item Bank of over 500 items. The questions are drawn from the system on the basis of the user’s answers. Each correct/incorrect question is followed by an easier/more difficult one.
On the basis of 25 items of listening comprehension, reading, grammar and vocabulary, the test establishes the user’s language skill level in 15 minutes with a much greater level of accuracy than that of traditional tests.
This test has been used by Banca d’Italia to test over 7000 employees. Other institutions and companies that have used CAPT include: The Ministry of Finance, The Public Library of BPI Information of the Centre Beaubourg in Paris, and CNED, the French National Distance Learning Centre.
